Q: Anxiety treatment?
I suffer from anxiety caused by stress at work. Actually I developed it a couple of years ago and it recently came back full force after a career change. It's affecting my blood pressure I can tell, because I feel most of the time like I'm in a heightened anxiety state (tightened chest) on the verge of an attack, whether I'm at work or not.
I've read about beta blockers being used for anxiety but when I asked a question about them last night people said that's not what I should talk to my MD about. Other people said it is. I'm confused. What's the best treatment for an anxiety disorder like this?
Actually I can tell my blood pressure is affected because I can no longer drink coffee or soda without getting dizzy and sometimes getting blurry vision. I'm calling to make an appointment with my MD today- I just want to know what to talk to him about and what suggestions I can make that he might not think of.
A: All anti-depressants work different for different people. Someone said don't use Effexor however, it is one of the better ones. I only stopped it because of weight gain. I have had anxiety for years and depression I have taken Xanax for years and yes I know they are addicting but I use them as prescribed and they keep me where I need to be mentally, I have used several anti-depressants. I have been on Wellbutrin for quite awhile now and it balances me quite well. Therapy also helps. Talk to your Dr. about your symptoms and get some help.
Q: What you think about me going to a anxiety treatment center?
i can't really do anything anymore like go out when i need too and i can't work because of panic alot thats why i quit my job twice this is ben going on for 6 months now and im tired of it now my option is to go to a treatment center in L.A. and i live here in VA. will it help me out to go or am i takin it to far?
A: I totally understand what your going through, Ask your doctor about Paxil its perscription but it has helped me 100% I'm back to normal, but if that doesnt work out, then yes, get some help
those panic attacks are like pure hell, I used to get them all the time and not go outside of my house
please try paxil it has helped my life get back to normal again
Q: Driving games for the treatment of driving anxiety?
I am a psychologist specializing in the treatment of anxiety disorders. I would like to use driving games in the treatment of driving anxious patients. To do that well, I would like a game with free driving through different environments (city, highway, mountain, etc.), and ability to predetermine different conditions: lighting and weather conditions and traffic density. Do you know any game that might fulfill all or some of these requirements?
A: Most all of the games on the market today have something of these types of programming. (Sony, X-box, Nintendo, etc) The best thing for you to do is to go into a store that sells these different game systems and just look at the discriptions of the different games and select one that you think is appropriate. Your idea sounds great. I hope it works for your patients.
Q: What's the best MEDICATION treatment for Social Anxiety Disorder?
Please don't list any benzodiazapenes.
Please list medications only, and no miracle cures. Please don't answer if you dont have social anxiety and have never undergone treatment; in other words, dont post what you read on a website. I'm looking for honest answers from personal experience. Please don't mention any kinds of "therapy" (cognitive, group, etc.) I'm only interested in medications, preferrably those currently available in the US.
I know that everyone responds differently to medicine, but I'm basically just asking what (if anything) has worked for you.
A: I was on Effexor and it seemed to help a little, but I had major mood swings. I switched to Wellbutrin and that has helped my anxiety greatly. The side effects were minimal and easy to deal with. I'm also currently on Seroquel which helps put my mind at ease at night, that also works pretty well, but I've had some short term memory issues with that one. It's nothing I can't deal with so I keep taking it because it works.
Q: im going to see a doctor tomorrow for anxiety what treatment will i get/ pills if any?
ive had anxiety for quite for some time now but i never got treatment for it because ive been in navy bootcamp so i havent had time to get cheaked out
it gets bad some time where i have to stop because im breathing too hard
ive had anxiety before i was in the navy so it just hasnt just started.
A: Contrary to what others are saying here the doc probably wont give you xanax right away, it is a highly addictive drug and is only used as a last resort.
Chances are he will put you on an antidepressant. No worries though, its usually a very low dose. After about a month you will come in for a follow up and if the anti depressants didnt work then they will give you a drug like xanax!
Q: What is the best comforting self treatment for anxiety without any drug use?
My mom was vomiting 3 days ago. When she vomits, the foods stuck up in her throats and in her nose, having her difficulty to breath. She cant really breath and then she get panic. Thank God we revive her and get her back to normal. But since then, her coughing makes it difficulty because her left side of the her body hurts everytime she cough. The last night she woke me up because her whole body is trembling. She told me she is not feeling good. She said, her heart is so heavy, that she cant understand what shes feeling. She wants to cry as much as she could. She said she wants to shout cause she feel hear heart is bursting. But she cant. Maybe she just miss my dad now that he's gone. Do you think this is anxiety? If it is, whats the best comforting things i need to do to my mom without the help of drugs? Help pls!
A: This does not sound like anxiety alone, it sounds potentially medical. Get her to a doctor.
Q: Is there a NATURAL treatment/remedy for anxiety?
I've been experiencing some really bad anxiety lately, and it is really affecting my life. Is there some kind of natural treatment/remedy/supplement for treating anxiety?
Any over-the-counter pill that you can take that will calm you?
I tried Kava Kava, but it did nothing for me.
I need something that will definitely work.
Btw, I should mention that I'm mainly seeking a temporary quick fix at the moment. I need something that'll work a.s.a.p.
A pill or something than will help calm me.
A: Valerian root works for me. Valium is derived from it. It has a terrible smell but once you get passed that it will calm you and also can be used as a sleep aid. You can buy it almost any where herbal remedies are sold including Walmart.
Q: Is there any alternative treatment for anxiety and panic attacks?
I suffer in certain situations with anxiety which can sometimes turn into a panic attack. I have come of my antidepressent and wanted to try some alternative therapy rather than going back on them. Anyone have any ideas?
A: Foods rich in magnesium will soothe your frazzled nervous system.... magnesium is known as the antistress mineral and will increase the production of hydrochloric acid in your tummy, thus aiding in digestion and helping to resolve any issues with constipation you may have .... magnesium is needed in our bodies for healthy nerve and muscle functioning and of course for heart health...... magnesium chloride is not the easiest to digest ......... magnesium chelate is♥
foods rich in magnesium are ~ leafy and green vegies, ground up nuts and seeds (ground up for easier digestion), cold water fishes such as tuna, salmon, sardines and whiting and wholegrain cereals and breads.
The leaves from the plant that produces passionfruit, passionflower herb, when made into a tea are exceptionally useful as an antidepressant and is also used to treat nervousness and anxiety, insomnia and nightmares, to alleviate mood swings and as a gentle sedative and relaxant.
The passionflower organic loose leaf variety of the herb encourages the uptake of tryptophan, which is an amino acid that assists deep sleep, as well as maintaining levels of serotonin, which is a hormone that is crucial in regulating mood swings and depression.
Check out this link for a complete list of herbs and their cautions ~ with passionflower it is wise to consult a nutritionally oriented physician or naturopath or herbalist if you are pregnant or breast feeding and not to use on infants or young children.

Any good health food store should be able to supply you with the organic variety of this herb....... only organic will suffice as the commercial and tea bag varieties have had so much of the goodness pulverised from they could never possibly be of any therapeutic use. Also, the spent leaves can generally be reused once more as the essential oils are still so potent in them, so you really do get your money's worth ♥
Foods rich in Tryptophan do a brilliant of conquering the blues and stress and anxiety also i reckon.
Tryptophan is an essential amino acid that's used by the brain - along with B6, B3, and magesium (known as the antistress mineral) - to produce serotonin (the natural feel good drug), a neurotransmitter that carries messages between the brain and one of the body's biochemical mechanisms of sleep.
The EFA's in foods rich in omega 3's such as cold water fishes like tuna, salmon, sardines and whiting are also essential in this process to nourish the neurons that are receiving the messages from the neurotransmitters. Cold water fishes such as salmon are particularly rich in the EFA's and will do a brilliant job of levelling out your stress, anxiety and depression levels and smoothing any mood swings you may have.
Eat more foods rich in all these things ♥
The Doctor doesn't tell you that when you go complaining of depression and stress now does he .............. he surely should though.
Tryptophan will help induce natural sleep; reduce pain sensitivity; act as a nondrug antidepressant; alleviate migraines; aid in reducing anxiety and tension and help relieve some symptoms of alcohol-related body-chemistry disorders and aid in control of alcoholism.
Best natural food sources of Tryptophan are; cottage cheese, milk, meat, fish, turkey, bananas, dried dates, peanuts and all protein rich foods.
Best natural food sources for magnesium are: leafy and green vegies, nuts and seeds, cold water fishes such as tuna, sardines, whiting and salmon.
Best natural food sources for niacin are: the white meat of chicken, whole wheat products, roasted peanuts, fish, eggs, avoacadoes, dates, figs and prunes.
Best natural food sources for vitamin B6 are: wheat germ, fish, soybeans, brewer's yeast, cantaloupe, cabbage, blackstgrap molasses, unmilled rice, eggs, oats, peanuts and walnuts.
By taking a good quality multi B complex supplement including all the B's ie: B1, B2, B3, B5, B6 and B12 you will support your body in dealing with the everyday stresses life throws at us. ie: new job, new home, school studies ...... the B complex of vitamins is essential for healthy digestive, neural and immune systsem functioning.Don't, however, buy any of the B complex of vitamins individually, but rather as a whole complex, unless under instructions from a nutritionally oriented physician or naturopath.
Bear in mind also that calcium and vitamin D and vitamin B6 are needed to effectively absorb vitamin B12, part of the B complex of vitamins, so eat more foods rich in calcium and try to get at least 10 - 15 minutes of safe sun exposure on a daily basis...... cold water fishes such as salmon and tuna are rich in both calcium and vitamin D..... vitamin B6 will be included as part of a Bcomplex of vitamins supplement or simply eat more foods rich in B6 ~ wheat germ, brewers yeast, liver, fish, cantaloupe, unmilled rice, eggs & oats♥
The whole food source of tryptophan and all other vitamins, minerals amino acids etc.... will always be the most nutritious and easily assimilable form.
Hope this information helps you a bit.
Take care of you♥

Q: How effective are the current psychological techniques in the treatment of anxiety?
Has your anxiety been cured by CBT, psychotherapy or NLP? Just to tell something about my problem - I found that I can't really relax entirely in front of people, especially strangers and that whenever I am expected to perform in front of an audience, an enormous sense of anxiety seems to grow inside and consume me and this naturally has an impact upon my performance. My brain doesn't seem to be able to function at all when stressed. I lose the ability of language, memory, reason, etc.
I assume that these techniques are fairly effective because they appear to be endorsed by medical professionals and yet I can't help being skeptical about the abilities and qualifications of the counsellors who practice them, having had a poor experience with a well known hypnotherapist. The only change I noticed was a lighter wallet and several hours out of my life wasted on the drivel he was pouring out. It is quite easy to make money out of the desperate.
A: Sounds like you have a mild case of social anxiety. Anxiety is actually THE group of disorders that therapy is best at treating. On the downside, social anxiety is harder to treat than other anxieties. It seems to have more of a physiological component than other anxiety disorders. While having a good therapist certainly helps, a lot of this will be up to you; it will be very difficult, but the more willing you are to engage in the therapy and related exercises, the better your outcome will be.
Here's what you do: find a psychologist (person with Ph.D in psychology or a Psy.D.) who can do CBT. While others can do therapy, psychologists are by far the most highly trained in therapy. You may also wish to see a psychiatrist (M.D.) to get on an anti-anxiety med. Studies consistently show that the combo of meds and therapy work better than either by itself.
Good Luck!
Q: Anyone suffer from generalized anxiety? What treatment do you get to help?
I've suffered for nearly a yr now and some days its fine and other days its a "bad" day and i just feel stressed and anxious about everything, even doing simple tasks. What kind of treaments or therapies help?
A: you need to consult a psychiatrist. they will evaluate you and offer different routes you can take. there are medications to help "take the edge off" and most likely, talk therapy will be suggested. you can figure out with their help what's at the root of your anxiety and find ways to deal and cope with it. usually a combination of medication AND talk therapy is best.
Q: What are the best medications for the treatment of anxiety?
I.m taking zoloft for my anxiety,i want to know if you think that there are better ones
A: Well if Zoloft isn't working for you, you should talk to your healthcare provider. They may want to try you on alternative medication therapies or change the strength of your Zoloft. Some other medicinal therapies include (but are not limited to) Lexapro, Cymbalta, Effexor, Xanax. Good luck
Q: What treatment is possible for anxiety disorders?
I'm going to a psychologist in two weeks. I think I have an anxiety disorder (constant and illogical worry and nervousness over silly things or nothing at all, often to the point of making myself sick). Anyway, if I am diagnosed I'm curious about the possible treatments I may encounter. And if anyone knows of a support forum it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
A: I have suffered from general anxiety disorder for about 5 years now, so I know what you are going through. I saw a therapist for a year, and was also placed on anti-depressants. They allow you to control the illogical thoughts that can control your life. I also learned a lot of breathing and relaxation techniques that help me to calm myself down before my fears get out of control.
Honestly, the medication helps the most, and if I didn't take it I'd still feel like I was going crazy. Good luck, and remember that you aren't alone in this!

Q: What's the best, most effective treatment for Social Anxiety Disorder?
I know certain meds work better for certain people, but it seems like most meds aren't made for social anxiety disorder in the first place. But I believe a few are supposed to be effective. Which ones seem to work best overall? Thanks.
A: The most commonly used ones are SSRI antidepressants. Amongst these, paroxetine has been the most studied, but fluoxetine, sertraline, citalopram, and escitalopram can also be effective in alleviating the worst of the symptoms. Venlafaxine can also be effective, but has not been studied for this condition. Another antidepressant, moclobemide, which is a RIMA ( reversible inhibitor of monoamine oxidase) is also licenced for social anxiety disorder. The older MAOIs can be effective too, but have quite severe side-effects and diet-restrictions. I've also read that clonazepam, a benzodiazepine can be effective, but is very rarely used, so you'd have to do some more research on this.
Q: Can you name the most effective treatment for anxiety and depression?
Please consider both psychotherapy and/or pharmaceutical approaches.
A: First, follow through with a psychological or neuropsychological evaluation which will determine underlying factors involved with the anxiety and depression and from there you will get solid referral to next step, whether it be individual insight-oriented therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, stress management techniques or psychopharmacologic therapy. Whatever the outcome you will have a firm foundation.
