Q: Asthma inhaler...?????
I have to have an inhaler for my asthma, but it always makes me feel dizzy & light headed should i stop using it?
A: No don't stop using it - especially if it is Seretide or one of the steroid inhalers.
See if your doctor's has a respiratory clinic, and explain all this to the nurse there. She will check you out and see how you are using the inhaler [you may not be breathing it in correctly, or holding your breath for too long after each puff], and give you good advice.
I thank God for our clinic nurse, she gave me lots of good advice which helped me manage my asthma/COPD much better.
Good luck!
Q: Take Asthma Inhaler and Nasal Inhaler on plane?
I have asthma and allergy problems. My ENT recommended that I take my nasal inhaler a 1/2 hour before I board my flight to Cancun on Saturday. Will the airport screening allow me to take my inhalers on the plane?
A: yes. The only ban is on liquids and gels. No problem with the inhaler. I believe you can even get exempions on medicine that is a liquid or gel if you will need it in flight, but I am not sure the proceedure. TSA has a web site where you can submit questions
Q: What's hapnin' to your body when you use an Asthma inhaler as a recreational drug?
If you take lots of hits from an asthma inhaler, it will make you shake a bit, and constantly fidget and move around
What causes this? Which chemicals are in inhalers, and what category of chemical are they in?
What positive/negative effects will it have on my body? (for long term and long term use)
Informed, preferably sourced, answers only please. And I don't need a drugs lecture!
All help appreciated :3
A: Asthma inhalers contain a drug with steroids in them, steroids can, in time thin the blood out, so that is why we are monitered by the doc, every so often.too many hits with the inhaler, will make you feel dizzy because your blood is thinner anyway. The trouble is, as with any medication there will be side effects, this is just how it is, so we have to measure the pros and cons of usage. We need our inhalers, because they help open up the airways enabling us to breath more easily, therefore making our lives that much more livable.
Q: Is it bad to take an asthma inhaler alot?
I was wondering because i have trouble sleeping and found out that it might have to do with me not breathing well while going to sleep so i started to take it every day before i go to sleep. The thing is i haven't has serious asthma since i was in the 5th grade and now im in the 12th so im just wondering will taking my inhaler again have any effect on how my asthma is basically gone?
A: It will not harm you if you take it once a night before bed, but it's probably a good idea to figure out for sure why you can't sleep, and not just assume that that may be the problem.
Taking your inhalor again after all this time will not give you asthma again if that's what you mean..
I hope this inhalor is not 6 years old, because that would be no good.
Q: Giving an 18 month old asthma inhaler through a nebuliser?
After a recent trip to the doctor it was diagnosed that my 18 month old son could possibly has asthma. He was prescribed two inhalers which should be administered through a nebuliser. He is supposed to take 5-10 breaths from the nebuliser for each one, however he gets really upset when he sees it or when we try and give it to him. This means we are lucky if he can get one or two breaths from it. We have tried to put him more at ease with it, by pretending to take it ourselves or pretending to give it to his teddies but it doesn't seem to make any difference, he will still get really upset.
Can anyone give me any advice on how to help him be more comfortable with taking it? If any one has had any similar situations with their children and any solutions they found that worked.
Any advice anyone could give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
A: First of all you don't give inhalers through a nebulizer. Did you get inhalers with a spacer (aerochamber) or did you get a liquid medicine to put in a nebulizer machine? I am assuming that since you said your son has to take 5-10 breaths you have an inhaler and spacer as a nebulizer treatment will last about 10 minutes which is way more that 5-10 breaths. So in saying that most children do not like doing inhaler with spacer treatments. You can give your son the spacer to play with to get him used to it and try to make a game out of holding it up to his face. Sometimes that will work as then they see the treatment as a game rather than something unpleasant. If that doesn't work then if you are by yourself giving him the treatment sit him on your lap with him facing the same direction as you are facing (his back to your stomach) wrap your arms around his arms with the inhaler and spacer in one hand (this way you are holding his arms down) put your head on one side of his head (this way you are holding and controlling his head) put the spacer to his face and press the inhaler. If he is screaming and crying you do not have to wait for 5-10 breaths as he is taking much deeper breaths and will get all of the medicine in 2 breaths. I hope this helps. If you are using a nebulizer with a bronchodilator solution like albuterol or xopenex then as long as the medication is close to his face or is blowing in his face then he will breathe it in. Again you can let him play with the mask when not giving a treatment so that he can see it as a game as well.
Q: I was prescribed a inhaler ,and I do not have asthma?
I was tested for asthma by allergist and all was good.. I do how ever have allergies which cause shortness of breath ,but the point is they prescribed me with a long term asthma inhaler.. Should I speak to my general doctor about this?
A: you can have asthmatic symptoms that are brought on by your allergies. You only need to do that while your having problems with your allergies.
Q: Is is safe to use an asthma inhaler to peak out on a running test?
I dont have asthma but I want to shave off some time on my run. I'm in great shape and run around a 6:02 mile. I just want ot know if it's safe to hit the inhaler a bit before the run to shave a few more seconds. I'm not going for any records. Just wondering...
Yeah. I expected that answer. Of course I know I don't need it. I was just wondering if I could safely. My time is pretty good as far as I'm concerned but I'm so damn competitive it drives me to to the extreme.
Good advise so far. I don't intend on using the stuff but I had to ask if was safe. Like i mentioned before, I just wanted to know if it was safe to use. Guess I'll just keep running my ass off and get better.
A: It is not going to do you any good. The inhaler is a broncho-dialator and will not improve your time. Depending on the inhaler, most of them do not have steroids in them. It is not going to hurt you but it will give you the shakes depending on how many puffs you take and it will also make your heart race. Dont think it will be worth it and it defiantly will not improve your time.
Q: How to make a carrying case for your asthma inhaler?
I'm not 18 so therefore don't have a credit card to order a carrying case off of the internet with, but I'd like something I could attach to my belt loop or bag with a carabiner so I don't have to worry about it falling out of my pockets.
I really don't care if my puffer is visible, I'm not self-conscious about it.
Has anybody made a case for their inhaler or have any ideas on how to make one?
A: mace case? you can buy them at swap meets and things like that. i guess that would work well. if you dont have a swap meet or something like that near, you could use a cell phone case thats big enough for it. i've had a few. only had an inhaler once and i always just carried it in my inside chest pocket.
Q: Can I take an asthma inhaler on an airplane?
We're flying from Chicago to Orlando next month - I was planning on putting all my shampoo, make-up, etc. in my checked luggage - but I would rather keep my son's inhaler in our carry-on in case he needs it - Also, do I have to bring the box with the prescription information on it?
This will be my first time flying and I'm a little nervous about getting through security.
A: Yes, as long as you have the box with the prescription info you can carry it on. Everything you need to know is in the link below.
Don't worry about flying.
Q: where can i buy a asthma inhaler without precription?
i don't have insurance anymore,i was wondering i anyone knows of a site or something where i can get an inhaler without a prescription.
p.s and somewhere kinda cheap cause i don't have much money, thanks!
A: I don't know about the states but I do know that in Australia you can get Ventolin and Asmol (the generic version) over the counter at a chemist so I'm guessing its probably the same where you are, but really you shouldn't just rely on short term relivers. Assuming the states is like us you won't be able to get preventer medication over the counter.
Q: Can pulmicort asthma inhaler affect blood sugar?
I use pulmicort inhaler and my blood sugar has been in the borderline diabetic range, could my inhaler be affecting my blood sugar?
A: Pulmicort has a steriod in it and I am diabetic and it does affect my blood sugars, so yes I think it could. If it is causing you to become "borderline" then I think maybe you were before "borderline", keep an eye on it.
Q: Can an asthma inhaler give you bone cancer?
I heard from someone that a prolonged use of asthma inhaler is dangerous... It will give you a bone cancer.. IS that so?
A: NO, NO, NO,not at all. There is no chances of bone cancer, if prolonged use of asthma inhaler. Those who are telling all those things, they are telling due to their ignorance.
Q: Is it SAFE to mix alcohol with my Ventolin asthma inhaler medicine?
I am of legal age to drink, but right now I am sick so I am on a Ventolin inhaler. Is this safe?
A: thats an interesting question. it wont kill you ... BUT ... alcohol raises the enzymes in your liver. these enzymes when in a high amount can remder most drugs useless. therefore, taking alcohol with any medication is a bad idea. alcohol with tylenol is also a really bad idea.
Q: I get my asthma inhaler on prescription in the uk, can I buy something similar over the counter in the USA?
I'll be working in the states for 6 months, wondered if I needed to bring supplies from the UK or if I could buy easily in the US. The inhaler is a blue Salamol CFC-free Inhaler/Reliever containing salbutamol sulphate.
A: only ones are primateen and can't remember the other name. some areas remove the inhaler from the package cause kids were snorting them in the aisle. I don't find them as effective as the ones requiring a presciption-bring a written presciption and bring plenty of inhalers -it is definitely more expensive here.
