Q: Does anyone have any ideas how I can raise autism awareness in my school?
I will be a senior in high school this fall. After high school i want to be a special education teacher and work with autistic kids. A lot of people in my school make fun of kids in the special education classes and I'm sick of it. I think it is mostly because they do not understand. I this problem can be solved and someone needs to do something, and start somewhere. Anyone have any ideas how i can raise autism awareness in my high school?

A: 1. Start a Disabilities club in your school and invite interested people to join it. Some club topics that can be discussed is Autism Awareness, Disabilities Awareness, and Disability Etiquette. Invite various PWDs to speak at your club. 2. Pass out pamphlets that explains Autism. (PWDs = Persons With Disabilities)

Q: Why is the puzzle piece a symbol used for autism awareness?
Was asked this question by a friend and couldn't find the answer online so I thought I'd ask here: does anyone know why the autism ribbon and other autism awareness things use the symbol of (multicoloured) puzzle pieces? If you don't know for sure, I'd love to hear your theories on it, but please do mention whether it's the official reason or your own idea on it. Thanks

A: The puzzle piece was designed by one of the National Autism Society members and adopted at first because it looked nothing like other organizational symbols. The puzzle piece has been described as appropriate because the children suffer from a "puzzling condition" that isolates them from society. This came from an article at: http://www.nas.org.uk/nas/jsp/polopoly.jsp?a=2183&d=364 In my opinion, I think it is interesting that they use the puzzle piece because Autism is a fundamental fractioning of the mind. This requires any therapies to replace those pieces missing or disconnected. I also like irony.

Q: autism awareness.......................?
How many people would be willing to donate money to Autism Speaks to find a cure. Honestly. Because 1 in 166* children are being diagnosed with autism and a cure should be found. If you say yes, please donate at least a dollar. Everything helps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *based from 2006 to all the people that said yes thank you so much! ive worked with autistic children ages 3-19 for the past year and a half and they mean a lot to me and im 14. for those with an autistic friend or family member i hope that one day soon a cure is found. thank you so much!

A: I do, my mother works with individual with autism and it is not a scam. To some extent, some people are able to focus or have little or no attention span. Some of the kids have difficulties learning new task.

Q: How many people know that April is Autism Awareness month?
1 out of every 166 children are diagnosed with a form of Autism, 96 of them boys. Everyone can do something, if only by spreading the word. Thank you. It depends on what state you live in whether vaccines are mandatory or not. There are some states that will file neglect charges and try to take away your children if they are not vaccinated.

A: The proportion has been climbing significantly, too. I've worked with kids with different forms of autism, not in any official capacity but simply as an education tutor. Autism presents many extraordinary challenges, both for the children and for those who interact with them. The good news is that autistic children can and do cope very well, they are aware of their condition, and many of them can communicate that to you and develop high compensatory skills. I've also found autistic kids to be delightful and engaged, quite in contrast to stereotypes. I also know an adult autistic who is going to medical school. So I would ask that people make the *potential* of autistics a part of their "Autism Awareness" too.

Q: How can i raise more awareness on Autism in my school?
I have autism, and people at my school bully me. Do you know what i can do to raise more awareness? Could this have anything to do with contacting Autism Society of Canada?

A: First of all, I want to tell you that my heart goes out to you for having to put up with the ignorance and bloody meaness of others. Definitely contact the Autism Society of Canada and let them know what is going on! You need support. Also you need to get your parents and school involved with stopping the students that bully you. Bullying is a crime. Then call in the media. Pick CNN, CBC, and all the biggies. Let them know that you are autistic and proud. Let them know what you put up with. Tell them your achievements. Shame those bullys! CR.

Q: Where can I find autism awareness stuff?
Please give me a store I can go to instead of a website. Thank y'all in advance!

A: Your best bet is to get in contact with the nearest Autism support group. They will be able to tell you how to get Autism Awareness items.

Q: Where can i buy personalized autism awareness items?
My son is autistic and i would love to get some items with his name on it for identification and leasure purposes.

A: You may want to be careful about putting your child's name where potential preditors can spot it easily. Weirdos often use personalized back-packs, t-shirts, hats, etc. to lure potential victims. I would recommend putting identification information in places like INSIDE their clothing or shoes.

Q: I'm looking to set up some sort of fund raiser for autism awareness..?
In my area local gas stations sell things like bracelets, or even if you donate a dollar, you sign a shamrock for March of Dimes, or a hot air balloon for Children's Miracle Network. I thought about creating something like a puzzle piece and taking all of the proceeds and donating them to autism research groups. Are there any rules and regulations to do this sort of thing, are there permits or something that I need to get.

A: You need to get a solicitation permit from your local government, and permission from any organization you want to raise money for.

Q: Autism Awareness colors for my bracelet?
What are the official colors of autism awareness? Also is there any awarenesses out there for peripheral neuropathy? If so what's the colors to that to it as well. I want to make my own bracelets with these colors..=]

A: blue, red, yellow,aqua

Q: does anyone know where i can get AUTISM AWARENESS layouts for my space profile?
i been looking for profile layouts for different causes;for example breast cancer, autism. but i cant find them any where. if anyone knows where i could get the codes. i really would appreciate it.

A: Here is someone who has given permission for anyone to use her autism graphics from her Myspace page. http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=40233269&blogID=138741472&MyToken=571fdbea-d87f-428c-a600-efd9fd2c193e Here is someone who provides codes and graphics for autism awareness: http://piecebypiece.bravehost.com/ I imagine you could do the same with any cause, just type in 'breast cancer awareness graphics' and when you find one, save it into a photobucket account, and they give you the codes you need. After you add it to your photobucket, you can use sites like pimp-my-profile to help you set it up as a background. Hope this helps!

Q: Does anyone know the perfect autism awareness preschool book.?
I am writing my own but I also want to find a book appropriate for my son's preschool that displays a verbal, large motor, autistic child. any thoughts?

A: try to look around on this site http://www.google.com/ it's help

Q: Book display for Autism Awareness?
I need to put together a book display for Autism Awareness at our local libraries. Any creative ideas to draw attention.

A: Thank you for inviting me to answer this question. You could ask some adults with autism to give you one-liners for your display. Don't forget to ask people who use facilitated communication, as well as people who are verbal. You can print the sayings and cut them out to add to the display, or have a laptop with a Powerpoint presentation, or a slide show of the sayings, moving from one slide to another. If you have pictures, please use adults as well as children. Many people do not understand that it is lifelong. My son typed something really neat for a public appearance we did recently. "I WOULD LIKE PEOPLE TO KNOW WE ARE SMART. WE ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER. HELP US TO HELP YOU. I’M GLAD WE GET TOGETHER TO SHARE FOOD AND FEELINGS." editing: Thanks for your kind words, Robert. I forgot to mention, pictures of people enjoying their lives would be good too. I'm sure your state has wonderful situations like the one my son has found, at http://recycledbirdhouse.com . Feel free to look at their "behind the scenes" and workshop photos. I volunteer there once a week and it has been such a blessing in my life to work for these gentlemen. .
