Q: What are the best Autism research programs in the United States (universities, not private orgs. )?
I am planning on graduate school and this is what I want to research, I'm having trouble finding which programs are the best, or places that even have programs like this. Any important faculty research involving Autism or other developmental disabilities would be great information to have too! Thanks a ton!
A: The university of arizona has a research program. I think it is ongoing.

Q: Genetics or Autism Research Internship for a high school sophmore?
Do you know of any oppurtunities for research in genetics or autism that I could apply for over the summer? I live in New York (long island), and any science research internships or programs that you know about would be great. Thanks! =)
A: You're asking the wrong people.
Why not Google New York for these research areas, then send an email to the research project leaders? Imagine how impressed they would be that you'd taken that initiative. Seriously, I would do that. Have a standard email that states your interest and how you found out about their research...
If I were a project leader I would think you were keen as mustard.
Good luck!
Q: Why did Palin mock fruit fly research? It has led to advancements in autism research?
I'm not making fun of her, I want to understand why she would mock it?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HCXqKEs68Xk
She mocked senators having "wasteful" "pet projects" such as fruit fly research.
But fruit fly research has led to advancements in genetics that help to figure out the causes and even solutions for autism and other conditions. I learned that in 10th grade Biology.
A: how do you think they will use the genetics for helping autism? by screening unborn babies for the autism gene (once trhey find it) and aborting those babies. Palin is Pro Life she dont want them to be aborted.
And personally that is one of the few things i agree with Palin about
Q: How does someone get into autism research?
Say they already have a bachelor's degree in special ed. What would they get their master's degree in? What would the Ph. D. be in?
A: What kind of research? As the first answerer mentioned, psychology would be one for both masters and phd. But you could also go into genetics, biology, biochemistry...pretty much right now the field is open, without a known cause or cure, people are working in every field trying to figure out all the steps.
Unfortunately, it's a hard thing to get funding for (lowest funding of any childhood disorder, even with highest numbers of any disorder), so you really need to try to attach yourself early to one of the foundations like autism speaks, or NAAR. Good luck
Q: I want to conduct a very small scale research in Autism in Delhi. Does anyone have any ideas?
no research till recently on Autism in India.
I have an opportunity to make undergrads do a small research.
I feel 'Autism' would be great as a topic. But i am simply not getting any ideas as to what can be done on such a small scale in Autism.
i am a community medicine professor at a large tertiary hospital in Delhi.
in addition i am a child specialist.
most importantly i am a mother to a `16 year old autistic son.
i regularly get medicine undergrads posted under me to teach them research work by helping them do small community based research.
i want to utilize this opportunity to forward some research in autism which is very minimal in India.
even at the psychiatry clinics my students were discouraged saying that this is a very rare disorder and they won't get too many patients to study on.
i want to go ahead with it still.
kindly advise.
A: Do you have reason to believe that there are different factors causing/effecting autism in Delhi?
if so, you could start by referencing a work that supposedly lists all the causes, then investigate people with Autism in Delhi to see if those factors are in Delhi or not.
Q: Catchy title for autism and vaccines research paper?
I am doing a research paper and its about vaccinations causing autism.. But my mind is drawing a blank and i cant think of any good titles. Any one have any ideas?
Thanks
Dont want to be mean but this is a serious topic i dont really want joking titles!
A: Autism: Improved Diagnostic Criteria or Pocket Epidemic?
Q: What is a good thesis statement for a research paper on autism?
I have to do a 7 to 10 page research paper on autism and I am having trouble coming up with a good thesis statement.
A: http://www.autism.com/
Q: Can you suggest a catchy title for my research paper about autism?
I choose the topic autism and the focus is for the parents to be knowledgeable about the issues of autism.
I was inspired with the issue of the death of the son of John Travolta whom people believe autistic. I wish the son of John Travolta will bless my research.:D
I would be very very happy if somebody can give me the most fit title for my research.

A: "Through a Glass Darkly" - the Mystery of Autism
I suggest this because my daughter has mild autism. It seems as if her whole life is filtered thru a murky glass. Quiet sounds like someone eating drive her bananas, but she can screech to high heaven without a thought. Simple directions become muddled in her brain. She might work an hour scribbling in bright colors on a piece of paper and proudly hand it to me, but turn up her nose at lovely artwork in a museum. It really seems as if most children with autism perceive the world in a different way.
If you choose to write the article in a more positive light, I suggest:
"Through Rose-Colored Glasses - Autism Uncovered"
Good Luck on your paper! I highly suggest interviewing parents and autistic children themselves to see how their world differs from our own.
Q: Is there conclusinve research linking autism in children to a lyme disease history in the mother?
I have had lyme disease twice and now have been diagnosed with antiphospholipid syndrome. I'm wondering about a connection between these diseases and autism, which I've heard may be related.
A: Wow, interesting question. Because there have yet to be ANY 'conclusive' studies as to an official cause of Autism, the answer would be no. Aside from that, I ahve yet to run into anything mentioning Lyme disease with Autism. I'll have to check that one out further. Hope your health is well.
Q: Why did Gov. Palin contradict herself on research for autism?
She claims to be all for research into cures for autism, however, in the same policy speech - she sarcastically refers to the study of fruit flies, and citing funding for it a waste of money... the same study that directly related to the research into a cure for autism. This was her first policy speech to date - does this spell unpreparedness, or just the wrong information provided to her?
A: She does not have many ideas to create as she talked about.
But look, She does not know what she is talking about
cause she cutted herself as governor in Alaska to cut 60% disability needs while her baby is sydrome down.
so no wonder, she is uneducated.
I can not trust her, i am disability. she has lost my vote.
Q: I am looking to do lots of research on autism what college would be best for me to go to?
I am planing on majoring in Psych., but then continuing research and trying to find treatments, preventions, and/or causes to autism. What would be a good college to look at? Thanks a bunch!!!
A: Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, MD.
Q: How do you do a research report for autism?
I'm doing a college research report due Monday and i want to know what questions, or what information I should include? I am having problems with the content of my report.
A: try starting with explaining what it is, then write how it its diagnosed, what are the effects (or how it effects a childs or the familys life), how it is treated. success stories.
Q: What topic can I use for an Autism research paper?
A: The Autism "Epidemic:" Myth or Reality
Some people believe autism rates have skyrocketted.
They often blame vaccinations.
Others believe the rate of diagnosis is what has increased, not the incedence rate.
Given that Asperger's, the most common form of autism (62 - 86%), was not know to exist in America until 1990, it seems obvious that at least some of the increase is due to a better understanding & therefore a better diagnosis of Autism. People Asperger's were always around, just labeled as "odd," "geeks," or "not quite right."
Then I have to wonder how many of the kids with the more severe forms were labeled brain damage, or just retarded. Remember, until recently, the common belief was that autsim was caused by unloving, neglectful mothers. If a doctor KNEW the mother was very loving & attentive, he would likely rule out a dianosis of autism, therefore keeping the diagnosis rate artificially low (back in the 80's & before).
I've included the link to a question I asked about autism stats. Be sure to click on "comments" for a bit more info & links I found later.
BTW - most doctors agree the shots didn't cause autism & the preservative the skeptics THOUGHT caused autism has been out of the shots for 3 years now. You could explore whether the rate has gone down sense then.
Send me a copy of your paper when your done, if you don't mind. I'd be very interested. Good Luck
Q: does anyone have any suggestions on a thesis statement for a research paper on autism?
im having a hard time thinking of a thesis statement for autism. I have thought of a few but they are not working for me. can anyone help me?
A: say a statement about autism like what it is (what is autism), opinion----then state the opinion like(some people with autism have the ability to think in other ways than a normal human)
remember statement, opinion
fact opinion
Q: Would you like to help support Autism Speaks and Autism research?
Autism has grown in the last year from one in every 166 children to one in every 150. That is a 16% jump in one years time! It is time that everyone became informed about Autism and helped to find the cause/cure. Please visit my page and become involved.http://www.autismwalk.org/site/TR?pg=personal&fr_id=1320&px=1940252
Sorry it is a 9% jump not 16%.... still HUGE
A: That statistic of 1 in 166 can be quite misleading. Not everyone out of that catogary has proufound autism. Some have Rett's syndrome, Asperger's syndrome, or childhood disintigrative disorder, or PDD otherwise not specified. So, perhaps the autism rate has not "grown" so significantly. Also, some autistics don't want to be "cured", they want to be accepted as having different strenghts and weaknesses.
