Q: If the MMR vaccine has never contained mercury, why is it called the autism vaccine?
Is there something else in it that has been linked to autism? I heard something about vaccine-induced measles virus being found in the brain and intestines of a 9 year-old autistic boy.
I only want answers from people who know why MMR is attributed to autism, not from people who deny it. That's not because I don't want to listen to reason. It's just that I know that side already and am just interested in why MMR is linked to autism when it never had thimerisol.
A: Many people desperately want to believe the MMR vaccine causes autism because scientists don't know yet what causes autism, but the parents of autistic children desperately want answers, which is understandable, but the conclusion is erroneous, as study after study has proved. The reason it often gets BLAMED (incorrectly) for autism is that the vaccine is coincidentally given at about the same time that autism starts showing up in children. It's a faulty cause-effect conclusion.
Q: What are your opinions on mmr vaccine and autism?
My daughter is due to have her mmr vaccine in 3 weeks. My husband and I had decided that we were going to have the vaccine separated. When my husband spoke to the dr today to tell her that we were planning on separating the shot, she went on to tell him that there is no proof that the mmr vaccine causes autism and told him that the vaccines are now thimerosol free. She managed to change his mind and now he doesn't think that we need to separate the vaccine. I don't know what to do. I fully intend on giving her the vaccine I just don't know whether or not I should separate it or give her the 3in1. What would or did you do with your child? What are your opinions on this subject? Thank you in advance.
A: Spread them out separately. Never more than one at a time to reduce likelihood of adverse symptoms and/or overloading the body.
My opinion on the subject is that all vaccines are in fact highly toxic and there are large numbers of people harmed or killed by it. Every year nearly 1000 children die from the MMR with thousands more suffering adverse short or long term side effects. They say thimerosal doesn't cause autism, fine. How about the other, other long list of toxic chemicals known to be neurotoxins and toxins to the nervous system??? You have thousands and thousands of children suffering side effects and not just autism. How can they keep on saying it's safe and effective? That's like buying a defective big screen TV that's already caused thousands of house fires but the manufacturer refuses to fix the problem and says it's still safe.
Underlying facts are undeniable from purported basis intended to bolster the rotted foundation of an underlying evil...
Q: Anyone know where I can get info on the new vaccine/autism case?
I heard there was a case in court that the government is actually aknowledging that there may be a connection between vaccines and autism. I dont think they have ever admitted that before.
A: "This does not represent anything other than a very special situation," said Dr. Julie Gerberding, head of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Who are you going to believe the Boss doing the spin or the Judge that slipped?
The case may not be a first, said Gary Golkiewicz, chief special master for the U.S. Court of Federal Claims. He oversees the special "vaccine court" which rules on requests for payments from the vaccine injury fund.
"Years ago, actually, I had a case, before we understood or knew the implications of autism, that the vaccine injured the child's brain caused an encephalopathy," he said. And the symptoms that come with that "fall within the broad rubric of autism."
And there are other somewhat similar cases, Golkiewicz says, that were decided before autism and its symptoms were more clearly defined
All the hysterical parents are saying is Green our vaccines. Look at the facts:
1983: Autism rate 1 in 10,000
Vaccine schedule 10 shots
2008: Autism rate in boys 1 in 70
Vaccine schedule 36
My sons last words:
"My name is Tanner. My name is Tanner."
The week of his shots for school...
Show me any other campaign for disinformation as wound up as this one by the medical(vaccine maker) community. Remove the Mecury, Aluminum, formaldehyde, ether, antifreeze. Reevaluate the schedule. What was the death rate from these deadly diseases in 1983 that we had to add 26shots? If there are side effects to the vaccinations all we asking for is support for therapy, respite, and recovery.
Q: How can the vaccine that has been linked to autism be avoided?
I have heard from many people that the mercury in certain vaccines eventually triggers autism. I was wondering if there was any way to exchange this vaccine with a safer one or can it be avoided? Its so scary to see the speed at which autism is moving into children. I have 7 mo niece and want take whatever precautions i can. thank you very much
A: There has been a big controversy about using a mercury compound known as thimerosol in vaccines for children. Parents with autistic children have been blaming the vaccines, and scientists have been saying it is not related.
But we don't need to know the real answer, because the vaccine companies have taken the thimerosol out.
Q: Do you believe that the MMR vaccine causes Autism?
If you do, what proof do you have? I know there is no solid proof proving that MMR does NOT cause Autism, but is there solid proof that it DOES? I know there are kids that have not had vaccines that have developed it as well as kids that have been vaccinated. Just curious.
A: Nope. And I'm sick of people saying it does. There is no concrete proof that it causes autism and even if there was a slight risk, better an autistic child than a dead child from some preventable disease. Furthermore, if autism is caused by the MMR vaccine then why do children who have never had the MMR vaccine still get autism?
Q: What are you opinions of the vaccine/autism thing?
I dont know all the info and it seems most alligations are a bit old but they still worry me..
Just something I was thinking about tonight!
A: This theory has been around for a long time...I first heard of it while in college 12 years ago. It seems to me that if there is a link between the two, that it would have been clearly established by now. The only studies that I have seen that suggest a link have been shown to be flawed or the researchers themselves have come back and discredited their findings. There is no significant discrepancy between the numbers of autistic children who were and were not vaccinated. Autism presents at about the same age whether the child was vaccinated, was not vaccinated, or had delayed vaccines.
Q: What are your views on the MMR vaccine and autism?
Do you have children that you have decided to vaccinate or not, how are they developing? Please be honest - there is an epidemic of autism in this country (one in 130 kids!!!!!!) why the sudden increase over the last few decades if not the vaccines???? I'm petrified! I refuse to sentence my baby to mental retardation just because a doctor tells me to! HELP!!!!
A: You'll have to make your own choice about vaccination. As the father of a 9 year old son with Asperger syndrome, a borderline autism spectrum, my experience was that he was developing quite normally, in fact above normal until he got the vaccine which did have thimerosal , at age 1 1/2. From then on he showed significant deterioration in verbal and social skills including eye contact and interaction. Before the shot he was beginning to speak and and react to his mother, siblings and I. He has been seen by the top experts in the United States, coast to coast, as we've spared no expense to provide the best medical treatment for him. His mother and I have undergone gene testing and have been determined NOT to have genetic markers for autism. No history of it in either of our familes at all. When I read and hear from all these naysayers pontificating that there is no connection between thimerosal /mercury vaccines and autism, I have to grin because without actually experiencing the results first hand they are only convincing themselves about what they believe and certainly not the heartbroken parents or children who suffer from vaccine related autism. And no, not every single case of autism is the result of vaccinations, but for the kids who suffer from it, the naysayers are doing a grave disservice to them and the public at large. So do what you feel is right for you and your kids and don't let me or people who have opposing views to mine convince you one way or the other. But for those of you saying Aspergers syndrome is a "fad" I submit this: Asperger syndrome is named after Austrian pediatrician Hans Asperger who, in 1944, described children in his practice who lacked nonverbal communication skills, failed to demonstrate empathy with their peers, and were physically clumsy. Fifty years later, AS was standardized as a diagnosis, but questions about many aspects of AS remain. For example, there is lingering doubt about the distinction between AS and high-functioning autism (HFA);partly due to this, the prevalence of AS is not firmly established. The exact cause of AS is unknown, although research supports the likelihood of a genetic basis; brain imaging techniques have NOT identified a clear common pathology. This is fact not a "fad".
I wish you and yours the best.
Q: What are your thoughts on the link between the MMR vaccine and autism?
I have concerns over the MMR vaccine. I haven't done enough research to determine what I will do. Have you vaccinated your children...What are you thoughts?
A: Receiving the MMR vaccine is a risk for developing autism. It is not the only cause, but is often the last straw to a child's body and brain after being weakened by other vaccines, environmental pollution, an unknown underlying genetic condition, etc. etc.
My children are not vaccinated at all. They are 5 years and 17 months old. Neither one has gotten the measles or the mumps yet, and I wouldn't know if they've gotten rubella because it is so mild in children it often causes no symptoms at all.
People didn't used to be afraid of measles or mumps or rubella, before the vaccine. They were diseases every child got. Mothers would take their kids to other kids' houses when they had measles, to get them infected at a convenient time or just to get it over with.
Even if your kids did get measles, mumps, or rubella, they would be fine. But the reality is, they have an extremely low chance these days of getting those diseases. The measles "outbreak" in the U.S. this year that was so highly publicized affected only 131 people in a population of over 300 million. Nobody died, only 15 people were admitted to the hospital, and nobody had any lasting health effects.
I don't expect that my children will get measles or mumps or rubella. But if they do, they'll be fine, and they'll have immunity for life, whereas the vaccine does not provide lifelong immunity.
If you decide to not give the MMR, just read about the diseases and their home treatments. Read about what supplements help, such as vitamin A for measles. Research how Tylenol and other fever reducers make illnesses worse. Once you have the knowledge, you will feel secure in your decision.
Q: The Autism-Vaccine Connection: What Do You Think?
I was watching Oprah the other day, and it was the episode on autism, my brother has Aspergers' Syndrome, which a form of high functioning autism, so my interest was immediately peaked.
This one woman was very adamant about the connection between autism and vaccines. I was all at once baffled and disgusted. Did she realize that she was turning off millions of mothers from vaccinating their babies, which could not only make them incredibly sick, but damage them for life or even be fatal? Does she realize that there is no solid evidentiary basis for that claim? I think that all options should be researched, but this one just seems a little off to me.
One could in fact argue that autism is getting more common then it was before, and link that with the discovery and use of vaccines, but I believe that its just being properly diagnosed a lot more often.
Any thoughts?
Thanks Duck Soup, I already knew that though, and in fact, the vaccines with these fillers we're distributed to the poorer neighborhoods and districts throughout the US, and not all of these cases can be directly linked. This woman who was so adamant about it doesn't seem to be part of that demographic
A: The vaccination theory was very reasonable, but research has failed to support that notion. Not that this has stopped the assumption of many that autism is caused by vaccinations.
The stopped using Thimerisol, the preservative many suspect causes autism, in vaccines in 2001. In January of 2003, the older vaccines that had Thimerisol expired.
So, if Thimerisol caused autism we would have experiences a major drop in autism, from 2004 to 2006. Yet the rates continute to rise.
But vaccinations are tough on a little body & I feel the recommended schedule to too aggressive. Many of the shots are combination shots. Some can be divided & given on different days so it is less of a shock to a child's system.
But I have a portrait of a 4 year old girl (my grandfather's sister) who died in 1914 of diptheria, unheard of in these days due to vaccinations. So I would not skip shots, just postpone them.
-----------------------
Another point is that the rise in autism is someone disputed. we know the rate of DIAGNOSIS has increased but we are not certain if the actual condition is much more common. My niece & nephew would likely have just been diagnosed as "retarded" or "brain damaged" 30 or 40 years ago.
I heard one of the ladies on "The View" today quote that the rate of austims used to be 1 out of 10,000. Those stats from many years ago which included only classic autism. Even then, many with autism were just diagnosed "retarded" or someother general label. Most experts agree that the actual incidence rate of classic autism 30 years ago was more like 1 out of 1,000.
The current stats (1 out of 166) include Asperger's & other high-functioning forms of autism which were never diagnosed as autistic until the late 80s. The now compose about 70% of those with autism. Classic, or "Kanner's" autism occurs at about a rate of 1 out of 500.
So an accurate comparison would the old incidence rate of 1 out of 1,000 to the new rate of 1 out of 500. That means the rates have doubled, but that is a far cry from the rate increasing 60 times over. (and far from an "epidemic")
Q: How many new parents are intimitated by the vaccine and autism issues?
A: Okay, here's my beef. Everyone wants to blame SOMETHING for their child having autism. No one knows what causes it.
Is it the immunizations, or more speficially, the mercury in immunizations? They really haven't changed much in the last 30 years, so there should be more kids who were diagnosed when I was a kid (I'm 28 now) w/ Autism. Are some kids more susceptible the the minute amts of mercury in the immunizations?
Does it have more to do w/ the changes we've experienced in society and the diagnosis of this disorder. Were there just as many kids in my generation that had autism and were never formally diagnosed?
Is it the changes in our dietary patterns and the increased amts of fast food, processed foods, chemical pesticides, germicides, etc that we are exposed to every day.
No one knows. That's the mystery of it all. Doctors can't tell you what causes it, so no one can move to changing the factors that cause it (if there in fact is anything that can be done to prevent or reduce the occurence).
My children have all received their immunizations. It is very important to keep the infectious diseases that killed so many people so many years ago away from our children. We do not want to have to face polio, mumps, measles, small pox, whooping cough, etc. The consequences of these diseases: physical disabilities, sterility, severe compromises in the quality of life, and even death, are not something I want my children to endure.
Like everything in medicine, you have to weigh the benefits against the risks. If you choose not to immunize your child, you are setting them up to possibly contract and have the side effects these disease bring. Your un-immunized child will be the one who is sent home from school to stay home when a measles outbreak occurs, not the child who's been immunized. It's a law in most states, but more and more parents are citing religious objections to these immunizations. Is it really against their beliefs, or is it because they've allowed themselves to be swayed by the often times biased portrayals of the big, bad immunization. Do your research and talk to your pediatrician about your concerns. Most pediatric immunizations are preservative free and thermisol free. Ask for that, and then the worries over mercury poisoning causing autism are a mute point.
Good luck!
Q: Which vaccine that have been link to autism?
I know i know, "they" say, vaccines don't have any side effect that triggers the autism.
But I just want to know which one?
A: To parents who still believe the MMR vaccine "causes" autism, I just read this in Parents Magazine:
"A new study provides even more evidence that the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine is not linked to autism."
Q: What is the vaccine that causes autism?
I just read a question that asked if anyone that doesn't have autism didn't get vaccinated. One person i work with had 2 sons both which are autisic, this scares me so bad that i have not vaccated my daughter she is 17 months old, can some one please tell which one it is, because i feel like i am being made to have a vaccinated against my will.
A: Any of the vaccines can give an adverse reaction. If you are concerned about metals and toxins building up in your child, this is what you can do. Test both the biological mother and father for metal toxicity using a 24 hr. urinary prophyrin test.
My autistic son's test showed mercury and lead. My doctor says he could have inherited the inability to get rid of toxins so I'm having every single member of my family tested. This is a genetic link explaining why some kids start to regress after numerous vaccinations. The metals ( like mercury and aluminum) in the envrionment and vaccines start to accumulate and cause neurological damage leading to developmental delays. I found this link to my son's autism this year after extensive testing. You guys who think vaccines are so safe are dead wrong!!! My son should have never been vaccinated according to the schedule. I certainly would have picked a better time when he was older to vaccinate against a few but not all. Autism now effects 1 in 94 boys and 1 in 150 kids. A safer plan for vaccinations needs to be implemented immediately.
The MMR is the one some feel is causing autism but I think its the total effect of all vaccinations that is contributing to autism. I'm not anti-vaccine and just think that the vaccines could be made safer. MMR is now available as three separate vaccines. Space the vaccines out so that if there is a reaction, you will know which one did it. Hepatitis B is not neccessary until the child reaches puberty. Hepatitis B is mainly spread through contaminated body fluids so before your child gets body piercings/ tattoos, etc. it would be a good idea to give the vaccine.
Good luck. You are doing the right thing to wait unitil your child's immune system has a chance to mature. I suggest doing a family background check for any signs of illness that may suggest metal poisoning, mental illness, weakened immune system ( cancer), digestive problems, or allergies.
This will give you a better idea on what your daughter inherited.
Q: What would be a good thesis statement for writing a paper about the link between autism and the MMR vaccine?
The statement has to be something that I am taking a position on.
A: I think the way to go about it is to examine the research first, and then decide on a thesis statement. All credible research to date has found there to be no link between autism and additives (its the additives that are at issue, not the vaccine itself, I believe). But if you have to take a position the other way, and say there is a link, there is a book out there called Evidence of Harm. Not scientific though - very "conspiracy theory" stuff - but it might help if you have to come up with something - Good luck!
Q: What do you think about the Autism/ MMR vaccine debate?
I watched the Oprah show on 'Autism' yesterday & I'm wondering what some of you think.
Thanks for all answers:)
Wow~ very interesting comments!
A: i have 4 children, all vaccinated! one has aspergers, mild autism, but we saw signs of this right when she was born so i doubt the vaccines had anything to do with it.
none of my kids have had any side effects from shots, not even fevers.
IF something were to happen to my child i would rather it was because i was protecting them rather than neglecting them.
it is like using a car seat, if they die in the accident anyway at least i know i did what i could to protect them, and i don't have to beat myself up forever feeling guitly for not protecting them.
Q: NBC nightly News Airs Episode on Autism / Vaccine Correlation, Did U Watch It?
The CDC examined 1,000 Autisitc Individuals who were exposed to Thimerasol Preservative in Childhood Vaccines in the 1990's. Studies were done on these children. CDC claims there is no profound evidence that Thimerasol caused any signifigant mental changes when presented with testing. That is up to Debate.
be the 1st to share your story, regarding this dilemma
if God wanted Mercury in our bodies he would have put it there, naturally.. It is not in our nature to have poisons or toxins to take a joy ride through our system. Would you allow them to inject snake venom, maggots, or road kill into your body but give it a pretty title such as CRK33 and assume that makes it okay since it hides the original composition?? would you let them inject anything as long as a deranged scientist said it would benefit our immunity or build-up resistance down the road.
dedum: you do see a disorder that is now occuring in 1:150 children, it is affecting gene pools also, our children and their children may suffer the most
A: Did you notice that the age range is 7-11 years old? I just came back from a workshop on cognitive ability. I.Q. stabilizes at 7 years old. My autistic son is 5. He can distinguish between colors, shapes, etc. He probably would do well on those tests that were shown along with the other autistic kids in his kindergarten class. This is because of the early intervention treatments. You would have to be mentally impaired not to do well in this age range.
I would like to see an independent study by a group not associated with any government agency or pharmaceutical company. How many times has a drug been pulled off the market after being approved for use. Any study can be manipulated to prove any conclusion.
