A: Ephedra, also known as ma huang and by its scientific name, Ephedra sinica, is an herbal product that comes from an evergreen plant. The Chinese used these plants 5,000 years ago, possibly for the treatment of asthma and hay fever. However, they used plant preparations unlike the modern ephedra supplements that are now banned.
Ephedra stimulates the brain, causing nervousness and making the heart beat faster. It temporarily expands the tubes that carry air to the lungs (bronchial tubes), which makes breathing easier in people who have asthma and other respiratory illnesses.
Serious problems exist with ephedra's safety. There have been some reports of heart attacks and deaths after its use. Do not take ephedra or anything that contains ephedra.

A: I bought lipodrene lite online from Vitamin World. Personally, even though they were "lite" they gave me a rush. Then they sucked all energy out of me, made me dull and contributed to my depression even more. I also developed a reaction to them. Even if I cut the pill into tiny pieces, I'd gag every time. Although, I took them so I could fast. So obviously I didn't take them with a meal like you're supposed to. But even still, the side effects just weren't worth it.
Q: Can you find products containing Ephedra at local stores instead of having to go online?
I know all the health risks involved so please do not answer to tell me I should not be taking ephedra or ephedra based products at all because I believe if not abused they are wonderful for energy and weight loss. I've had successful results with them and would just love to know where I could purchase any without ordering online.
A: CVS sells it under a different name, Biotech Labs BronchEase and Vasopro are two different names.
I think it's only available behind the pharmacy counter. And there is definitely a limit as to how much you can buy daily.

I know it has been banned in the US. YES I know its bad for you and I dont need any advice on weight loss or comments about the effects of ephedra. I had been using "Pure Ephedra" for years and years and it has worked wonders for me with out any harmful effects. I had heard you can get it in Germany. Does anyone know how I can get it? I don't understand why it's illegal just because some people abused it.

A: I definitely use an Ephedra product - it's called Herbalean.
The ban on Ephedra was lifted on Arpil 14th of this year, but some states (Illinois, Nebraska, Florida, and some counties in CA) still ban it. According to the ruling and FDA guidelines, the maximum allowable dose is 10mg, and it must be delivered over 24hrs by extended release.
And contrary to what some people think, you can't meka meth fro mthe Ma Huang ephedra - it's the natural herb. Ephedrine is the synthetic version that people use to make meth. Also, a little known fact is that more people die from Tylenol each year than have ever died from ephedra.
Like I said, I take a supplement caleld Herbalean. It contains Hoodia for appetite suppression, but it also contains Ma Huang Ephedra for an energy boost.

A: I have been taking ephedra on and off for about 4 years. I only take 25 milligrams a day. The max is 100. If u take the 25 amount in the morning...u shouldn't have any problems going to sleep at night (unless u are extra sensitive to ephedra which is possible). In the case u are extra sensitive u probably should not take any ephedra.
I talked it over with my doctor and u should too.

I read articles that ephedra contaning (any amount) products are banned again in August 2006 but there are still a lot of edhedra contaning products online. Any ideas why? or how? Isn't it illegal? Can't they stop it?
I found in many websites that as of 2007 it is illegal in any amounts including low dosages (10 mg) but it is still quite easy to get them???
A: Ephedra was banned but about a month later the ban was recalled. They then banned ephedra in large doses. So what you can buy online and in some stores is a lesser dose than before but it is legal. I don't know the exact case that reestablished ephedra.

A: A lot of gas stations/convenience stores have ephedrine pills for sale in glass cases near the register. This is the best you're going to get. Some of the crankier ones will make you sign some book and show ID if you want to buy them.
