Q: School Research: What was Ephedra supplements originally marketed for?
before the ban. Weight loss? Energy booster? Performance enhancement?

A: ephedra is dangerous but usually the only reason people were getting hurt is because they were taking too much. i think most tablets come with about 25mg, so try and stay under about 100mg in a 24 hour period.

Q: Will using ephedra, in a dietary supplement show up in a urine drug test? How long does ephedra stay in body?

A: It can show up as an amphetamine. One would have to wait 3 days to be sure it is gone, although it likely would disappear long before that.

Q: Are there any LEGAL alternatives to Ephedra that gives the same effect? Where can I get it & how much is it?
I'm looking for a dietary supplement that has the same effect as Ephedra. Thank you for answering my question! I have used the Xenedrine EFX and Thermo Burst but I don't see or feel any changes. I take these pills prior to my exercise routine.

A: For those that think ephedra is dangerous, there have been less deaths linked to ephedra over a ten year span than deaths due to tylenol in one year: 150 in ten years compared to over 650 in one year! The FDA lifted the ban on ephedra on April 14th of this year, so it's now available and legal in the states. Neutraceuticals, the company that created the original MetaboLife 356 has designed a new ephedra extended release formula called Herbalean. My wife is very seneitive to caffine, and she couldn't take MetbaoLife. With the extended release Herbalean and the calming herbs in the new formula, she's been taking it for a month now and loves it. In fact, she liked it so much that she became a distributor. I've also been taking it and haven't experienced any of the jitters I got when I took MetboLife. For the first week I took Herbalean, I had to actually set the alarm on my cell phone to remind me when to eat. It has Hoodia as an appetite suppression, so the whole formula is excellent. I'd highly suggest this to anyone looking to supplement their diet program. Hope that helps!

Q: are there any herbal supplements that help with weight loss?
ive lost about 50 ponds in 6 months, and i would like to loose some more, but now it seems to be comming off very slowly, wheni say herbal supplements, i dont want ephedra or anything speedy that may make me jittery, are there harmless herbal supplements that help aid weight loss?

A: Homeopathic Treatment :- PHYTOLACCA BERRY's Mother Tincture is perhaps the safest and sure fire way of loosing excessive fat around abdomen. With Phytolacca Berry once you loose the excessive fat and weight you don't get it back because you body takes care of itself after that and keeps you from gathering up excessive fat. It is prescribed after having a baby too, to get the tummy to loose its flab and to make it flatter and tighter. And after loosing weight with this you don't get flabby it tightens up the flab and skin along with helping your body to shed the excessive accumulation of fat around the girth The dosage is 15 to 20 drops of the tincture in half a cup of hot water thrice a day half hour before or after meals. Avoid Chocolates, Coffee, Mints, Red Meat and Carbonated and Alcoholic drinks while taking Homeopathic Medicines. You have to take it for at least 30 to 45 days after that you start to feel the results. To the best of my knowledge its the safest and the most sure fire way of loosing fat and weight and keeping it of for keeps. Excellent remedy for Obese people who cant seem to shed weight despite trying. Homeopathic Remedies can be found at all Major Herbal Stores or could be bought on line, In most of the world Homeopathic remedies are quite cheap and easy to find and they do not need a prescription. Take care and God Bless !

Q: This is for people who know a lot about dietary supplements?
I am trying to pick out something to take to help me lose fat and actual pounds. I have taken Hydroxycut and it did not work. I lost no weight, with diet and exercise. I have also taken farenheit which did not work for me either. That helped me to curve my appetite but did not cause me to drop any weight. Can anyone recommend something that will work that is safe to take. No ephedra or anything like that?

A: Try Lipo-6, it really worked for me, while Hydroycut did nothing.

Q: How do you feel about Mega-t green tea supplements?
I'm not asking for a lecture on how pills don't work. I'm just wondering what you know or how you feel? They are DRUG FREE and EPHEDRA FREE.

A: They're throwing your money in the trash too. Herbal does NOT mean "drug free". Just because it's not FDA regulated does not mean it's not a drug. Is marijuana also not a drug because it's not FDA regulated despite it's proven medicinal purposes? Those Mega-T pills are also not even drug free - they have 50mg of caffeine in each pill. You're honestly better off and safer using straight caffeine alone as an appetite suppressant. Not only is it regulated, we already know what it does to your body and how/why. It's also much cheaper as a bottle of generic No Doz is only 3 bucks and suppresses appetite much longer as each one is 250-300mg of caffeine instead of 50. I don't recommend this, don't misunderstand what I'm saying. I'm saying that if you are going to use a pill (despite the fact that they really don't work - a balanced diet and exercise are the key), this is a better alternative. If the idea of that much caffeine bothers you, drink green tea with no sugar or cream 3x per day. It's still caffeine but less of it and you're getting the actual benefits of green tea as opposed to the lies they claim about those pills.

Q: Is Ephedra Illegal in the US?
From everything I have heard Ephedra is no longer sold in the United States. But then recently I started hearing sports supplement commercials saying that they have products with Ephedra again...yet I haven't seen any energy pills with Ephedra again. So is Ephedra still banned or is it being sold again? And if it is, is it only in sports supplements? Thank you. I'm very confused because I have found multiple sports nutrition places claiming to sell supplements with Ephedra...both locally and online. Yet everyone is telling me it is controlled. I'm just not for sure what's going on.

A: In the United States it IS illegal for companies to sell dietary supplements containing ephedrine, as of last year (2006). However, there are uses for ephedrine that are legal. First, to "Anonymous": Sorry, but you're wrong. Sudafed does NOT contain ephedra. It contains pseudoephedrine. For one, ephedra is an herb. Ephedrine and pseudoephedrine are derivatives. And there is a big difference between the pharmacology of pseudoephedrine and ephedrine. Oh, AND: it is NOT a controlled substance. It just has certain cross-regulatory circumstances placed on it because of an entirely different law altogether. Anyways, back to the question... If you live in the United States and have gone to purchase cold medicines such as Sudafed and certain other sinus/allergy medications, you may have noticed that you are required to show your drivers license to the clerk and sometimes even sign a form. This is because all medicines containing ephedrine and pseudoephedrine are now regulated. You can only purchase a certain number of boxes of ephedrine and p-ephedrine containing products each month. The reason it is now regulated is because of the Methamphetamine Precursor Act. Depending on what area of the U.S. you live in, you may have noticed that the manufacturing of methamphetamines is on the rise in recent years. A precursor is any "ingredient" in a recipe that is necessary for ultimately yielding the final product. Congress finally took the liberty of applying the precursor act to the methamphetamine process. Because ephedrine and pseudoephedrine are necessary ingredients for the first phase of the manufacturing process, they have been put on a "regulatory status" - at least for the time being. So, Romeo, the short answer to your question is no, they haven't changed the regulations on ephedra/ephedrine as of yet. It may one day change, but for now it is still illegal for dietary and exercise supplements to contain them, and the cold/sinus/allergy medicines are allowed to contain them but the sales are regulated. Hope this answers your question :) If you have any other questions about it, feel free to message me and I will certainly respond.

Q: Are there any supplements to take to lose weight, that will not race your heart beat or make you poo ur pants?
I'm 29 years 6' tall and 320lbs. I want to lose about 50 lbs and wish to do so quickly. In the past, I have taken ephedra based supplements that worked great. Fortunately, I didnt suffer any health issues. Realistically, I know if I were to take this pills again, there is a chance for something bad to happen. I'm looking for something safe to take, in combination with exercise and diet. My friend suggested this product that worked for him called Ally. Only problem is that it tends to make one lose control of their bowels. I dont need to lose weight that bad. Can anyone suggest anything that will help?

A: There are tons of weight loss pills out there. You need to talk to your Dr., so he can help you and monitor any problems. The safest way. Theres always Weight Watchers on T.V. to think about. Do consult your Dr. about anything you do - do.

Q: Does Hoodia really work as a weight loss supplement? Is it as bad as ephedra?

A: hi :) am not sure whats available in the markets...but, this is what i did to lose weight... PLEASE DONT TAKE PILLS... pills are nothing but anorectic agents... they make you feel less hungry... there is no way to loose weight fast... though , sauna , steam and massages help slightly... it has to be combined with diet and excercise... pills are very bad in the long run... can lead to impotency and infertility... i lost 10 kgs in about 5 months time... i am getting married in august and i desperately needed to loose weight... i was 65 kilos when i started... according to my BMI , i was 10kgs + overweight... i stand 5'2.odd and 65 kilos is grossly overweight... just dieting wont help like i found out in my case... diet + exercise will do the trick... i'll tell you what i did... it worked for me... hope it works for you too :) the trick is not to starve but to eat smart :) and stay healthy :) what you should cut down : oil , butter , cheese , margarine , mayonisse , sauces (depends , will get back to that a bit later), chips , crisps, nuts , chocolates , sugar , cola, fizz , areated drinks ,ice creams , chocolate , alcohol , cakes and everything else thats hi - cal... you'll need to avoid everything thats sweet , oily and sticky... if you are not sure about what foods to avoid... check the net...loads of info available... vegetables / meat to avoid : potatoes - very very important , beetroot (its a root and has concenterated sugar in it) , all kinds of roots basically except carrot... avoid lamb, mutton , pork , beef, and prawns... all these put on weight... eat only lean meats... thats fish and chicken.. avoid eating egg yolk... eat just the egg white... fruits to avoid : mangoes , bananas , jackfruit now that we had a look at what foodstuff is to be avoided...you might be wondering if there is anythig at all that you can eat... thats how i felt... there is loads of stuff you can eat actually :) here they come :) fast foods are a big no no... you can order salads and special lo cal foods that are avaailable in most outlets... its best to eat at home for the period you are dieting and trying to lose weight...after those few months... once you've shed your load...you can get back to your usual lifestyle... of course with some caution... my diet... breakfast: skimmed milk (use skimmmed milk , is low in fat , other typer of milk are higher in fat content) , fruit... i am from India... am not sure where you are from and hence you might not understand certain food types we consume here... but let me tell you something... Indian food is very very oily and very difficult to diet... and try cereal in the mornings... oats, weetabix... etc... have a good breakfast...alwaays use brown bread... whole wheat brown bread is very good for weight reduction... for lunch , we are staple rice eaters... rice is bad for fat reduction... but i still took rice because its a habit tht cant be changed... everyone takes rice here... so... rice - one cup - 100gms and lots of veggies cooked in less oil.. and absolutely no coconut and curry with less oil... all in all keep your oil intake to 2 tea spoons everyday... that would be just for seasoning... also using olive oil helps a lot... then for dinner... compulsarily have wheat... pasta is a good option...but make sure you buy wheat pasta... check before buying... and of course in pasta absolutely no sauces... some varities of sauces are acceptable... as far as they dont have cheese , butter , oil ,mayonisse and fattening substances in general... you can use tomato spicy sauces etc... make sure your sugar intake doesnt cross 2 - 3 spoons per day... (not tablespoons) and no butter and ghee of course... eat a lot of fruits and vegetables... and all kinds of cereal... if you are hungry... eat a fruit... or you can eat stuff like puffed wheat and puffed rice... but no puffed corn... corn products again put on weight... eat sandwiches as much as possible... i dont know which part of the world you are from and hence cant suggest much for you in terms of recepies... and combined with dieting... you need to excercise for atleast an hour everyday... you'll see the difference...defenitely... if you think gym is boring... take up dance classes... or run along the beach... if you have one... or skate... or just about any physical activity... brisk walking will also help... the key is to stay healthy while you diet and lose weight... drink loads of water...atleast 6 glasses per day... and do a lot of physical activity.... take the stairwy instead of the lift.... and small things like that... if you have any more queries...mail me... cheers :) and good luck :) its not difficult...you'll get used to it in a few days... and of course the results are fab:) who doesnt want a great looking body... you can get back to your normal lifestyle once you slim down... after that... its just eating what you like and burning it out the next day with just a little bit of excercise :) also check your weight everyday... its a great way to motivate and monitor your progres :) Source(s): personal exp :)
